Oxidation reactions by uranium hexafluoride in anhydrous hydrogen fluoride

  • 1. Kyoto Univ. (Japan). Faculty of Engineering

Description

Uranium hexafluoride oxidizes cationic Ag(I) to Ag(II) to give silver difluoride in anhydrous hydrogen fluoride at ambient temperature. The reaction proceeds via formation of Ag2UF8(cubic, a=8.513 A) which is unstable and decomposes to AgF2 and AgUF6. (author)
