Problem of pin-to-pin failure propagation in sodium-cooled fast breeder reactors
Description
The possibility of a pin-to-pin failure propagation is an important question in connection with LMFBR safety analysis. A brief review is given of the present state of knowledge. Conceivable mechanisms of an accident sequence are discussed, and the possibilities for a fast failure propagation are demonstrated. A pin-to-pin failure propagation is concluded to be rather unlikely but it may not be excluded completely under certain accident conditions. (auth)
