An investigation of shell model structure near 56Ni

  • 1. School of Engineering, University of Brighton, Lewes Road, Brighton, Sussex BN2 4GJ (United Kingdom)

Description

Nuclei in the A approx. = 56 region are studied with the shell model. Excitation of particles from the f7/2 shell is found to be dominated by a pair mode. In fact, such core excited states provide the most important components of the 56Ni ground state. (author)
