Risks and chances of healing in tumour therapy

It was attempted in the present chapter to scientifically support the radiotherapeutic decision or the decision for a combined tumour therapeutic concept quantitatively and to render it independent of the intuition of interpolation. The methods given here are exclusively based on the clinical statistics (or also approximately assessed) data on tumour healing and side effect risks when applying certain therapy concepts. The results found with the methods given here particularly depend on the reliability of the statistic values used; an assessed initial parameter will therefore only lead to a result of approcimate accuracy. It should be noted that the methods mentioned cannot make the therapeutical decision for the oncologist on the ethical reasonability of high-risk doses. (orig.)
