Stacking fault energy of austenite in Fe-30% Ni-C alloys

  • 1. AN Ukrainskoj SSR, Kiev. Inst. Metallofiziki

Description

The high-resolution electron diffraction microscopy method was used to determine the stacking fault (SF) energy of austenite in iron-nickel alloys. It was found that the SF of the Fe-30% Ni alloy at room temperature is 40 erg/cm2, whereas its dependence on the content of carbon in the alloy is characterized by a curve having a minimum. A possible explanation is given to such a run of the concentration dependence of the SF energy
