Formation of perbromate radical anions by attachment of O- to bromate in a solid matrix
Description
Migration of O- in x-irradiated KClO3 crystals is exploited to study the reaction between O- and BrO-3 occupying anion sites in KClO3. ESR spectra show that O- becomes attached to BrO-3, forming a tetrahedral adduct BrO2-4, which is virtually identical to the species arising from electron-capture on BrO-4, in accordance with the structural equivalence between [XO-3+O-] and [XO-4+e-] established earlier for X = iodine in aqueous solution
