Determination of isotopic composition of ytterbium by thermal ionization mass spectrometry

Description
Ytterbium is a naturally occurring rare earth element having seven isotopes with mass numbers from 168 to 176. Among these isotopes, 168Yb (0.13%) and 176Yb (12.78%) are used in industrial and medical application. 168Yb is transformed to the radio-active isotope 169Yb by the (n, γ) reaction. 169Yb has a gamma energy of 145 keV and is used as a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) source
