Structure defects in olivine crystals from pallasites

Description

Olivine crystals from pallasites are excellent detectors for VVH cosmic ray nuclei. Olivine crystals from the meteorites Admire, Ahumada, Albin, Bragin, Brenhem, Eagle Station, Finnmarken, Krasnojarsk, Lipovsky, Marjalahti, Patwar, Pavlodar, Springwater and Til Montain have been chosen for investigation. These crystals have been scanned before etching in order to examine capillar and other inclusions orientation have been performed using an immersion oil method. It has been established that the capillar system is oriented only along the main crystallographic directions. The angular distribution of tracks due to VH and VVH nuclei in olivine crystals from Marjalahti indicates that our method is good for distinguishing tracks and capillar inclusions
