The influence of temperature on the surface acidity of metal oxides immersed in water

Description
The available thermodynamic information for the adsorption of protons on metal (hydrous) oxides is reviewed and analyzed in terms of the surface dissociation model. Comparison with thermodynamic parameters for the hydrolysis of aqueous metal ions indicates that surface acid-base equilibria are less influenced by changes in ionic hydration than the analogous homogeneous reactions. The implications of this observation are discussed. (Author)
