Description
We discuss the solution of the first order Fokker-Planck equation describing the collisional slowing down of fast ions in magnetically confined plasmas. A statistical method to predict the evolution across the branch points of the characteristic curves is proposed. A significant transport of fast ion orbits in the direction of the magnetic axis is discovered. (orig.)
