What do we expect from Radiopharmacy software?

Description

The Radiopharmaceutical Health Products circuit or RHP (radiopharmaceutical drugs, radiopharmaceutical preparation and radioactive implantable medical devices) is a complex process that nowadays requires computerization. This circuit must be in accordance with both the legislation on medicinal products and the legislation on artificial radioelements. It is acknowledged that computerization of the circuit; possibly different within each organization, provides assistance to stakeholders: pharmaceutical analysis of prescription, pharmaceutical preparation and preparation of doses to be dispensed and waste management for example... The software also allows real-time monitoring of the activity and traceability of the various pharmaceutical processes. In addition, they are generally interfaced with equipment used routinely: dose calibrator, dose dispensing equipment... In the absence of any legislation for these software products, which are not considered either as medical devices or as software to assist prescription or dispensation, a working group, under the aegis of the Societe Francaise de Radiopharmacie (SoFRa), has written a minimum set of specifications for these radiopharmaceutical software products. The analyses of the risk maps of different hospital structures allowed a global analysis and synthesis of the different processes, settings, interfaces and requirements for the proper use of these software. The specifications include the very specific requirements of radiopharmacy (notion of radioactive decay, complex preparations with chemical synthesis, traceability...) and will allow software publishers to propose tools adapted to our practice and the RHP circuit. Abstract (French)

Le circuit des Produits De Sante Radiopharmaceutiques PDSR (medicaments et preparations radiopharmaceutiques et dispositifs medicaux implantables radioactifs en sources non scellees) est un processus complexe qui necessite aujourd'hui une informatisation. Ce circuit doit etre conforme a la fois avec la legislation relative au medicament et avec celle relative aux radioelements artificiels. Il est reconnu que l'informatisation du circuit radiopharmaceutique, possiblement different pour s'adapter a chaque organisation, apporte une aide a tous les intervenants: analyse pharmaceutique de prescription, preparation, liberation pharmaceutique, preparation des doses a administrer... Les logiciels permettent un suivi en temps reel de l'activite et une tracabilite des processus pharmaceutiques. De plus, ils sont generalement interfaces avec les equipements utilises en routine: activimetres, preleveurs de doses automatises... Devant l'absence de legislation encadrant ces logiciels qui ne sont consideres ni comme des dispositifs medicaux, ni comme logiciel d'aide a la prescription ou dispensation, un groupe de travail, sous l'egide de la Societe Francaise de Radiopharmacie (SoFRa) a redige un cahier des charges a minima de ces logiciels. Les analyses des cartographies des risques de differentes structures hospitalieres ont permis une synthese des differents processus, parametrages et interfaces necessaires au bon usage de ces logiciels. Le cahier des charges reprend les specifications tres particulieres de l'activite de radiopharmacie (medicament a visee diagnostique et therapeutique, decroissance radioactive, tracabilite des trousses, precurseurs et/ou generateurs necessaires aux preparations radiopharmaceutiques..) et permettra aux editeurs de logiciels de proposer des outils adaptes a notre pratique et au circuit des PDSR.
