A continuous method for refining sodium
Description
The invention relates to a refining method according to which commercial sodium provides a high purity sodium with, in particular, a very small calcium content. The method consists in continuously feeding a predetermined amount of sodium peroxide into a sodium stream, mixing and causing said sodium peroxide to reach with sodium at an appropriate temperature, and, finally, separating the reaction products from sodium by decanting and filtering same. The thus obtained high purity sodium meets the requirements of atomic industries in particular, in view of its possible use as coolant in nuclear reactors of the ''breeder'' type

L'invention concerne un procede de raffinage qui permet d'obtenir a partir de sodium technique un sodium de tres haute purete comportant en particulier une tres faible teneur en calcium. Le procede consiste a realiser en continu l'introduction d'une teneur determinee de peroxyde de sodium dans un courant de sodium, a melanger puis a faire reagir ce peroxyde de sodium avec le sodium a temperature convenable et enfin a separer par decantation et filtration les produits de la reaction d'avec le sodium. Le sodium de tres haute purete ainsi obtenu repond en particulier aux exigences de l'industrie atomique pour son utilisation comme fluide caloporteur dans les reacteurs nucleaires du type ''surregenerateur''Additional details
