A non-destructive nuclear method for the determination of nitrogen in solids

  • 1. University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa). Nuclear Physics Research Unit

Description

The nitrogen concentration in diamonds and in SiC was determined by charged particle activation analysis. The activation reaction used was 14N(α,n)17F, the decay proceeding with the following characteristics: 17F→170+β++ν(tausub(1/2)=66sec). The annihilation radiation was detected. Nitrogen concentrations between approximately 5 ppm and approximately 2000 ppm were found in the samples. (author)
