Persistency of atmospheric diffusion conditions as a function of the time of the day
Description
The persistency of diffusion conditions (wind direction and diffusion category) is studied at the site of the Karlsruhe Neclear Research Center as a function of the time of the day. The diffusion category relates to the vertical profile of wind velocity; the wind direction is measured at 60 m height. The persistency is defined here as the probability that the wind direction remains in a given sector longer than the pre-established duration without causing the diffusion category to change by more than a number of stages fixed in advance. Only under unstable and stable weather conditions this persistency depends very much on the time of the day. Varying categories exert a stronger influence on the combined persistency than variations in the wind direction. (orig.)

Die Bestaendigkeit der Ausbreitungsbedingungen (Windrichtung und Ausbreitungskategorie) wird in Abhaengigkeit der Tageszeit am Standort des Kernforschungszentrums Karlsruhe untersucht. Die Ausbreitungskategorie bezieht sich auf das vertikale Windgeschwindigkeitsprofil; bei der Windrichtung handelt es sich um den in 60 m Hoehe gemessenen Wert. Die Bestaendigkeit ist hier als die Wahrscheinlichkeit definiert, dass die Windrichtung laenger als eine vorgegebene Zeit in einem vorgegebenen Sektor verweilt, ohne dass sich die Ausbreitungskategorie um mehr als eine vorgegebene Stufenzahl aendert. Diese Bestaendigkeit ist nur fuer labile und stabile Wetterbedingungen stark von der Tageszeit abhaengig. Wechselnde Kategorien beeinflussen die gekoppelte Bestaendigkeit staerker als schwankende Windrichtungen. (orig.)
