Description

A study was made of photoreactivation of γ-ray-induced genetic damages in postmeiotic male germ cells of c3G mutant of Drosophila melanogaster. Room light was found to decrease (DRF 1.5-2.2) the frequency of both the chromosomal mutations at five selected loci and large deletions of the X-chromosome. This effect of visible light is similar to that produced on the survival rate of γ-irradiated E. coli cells. On the other hand, exposure to light leads to a significant increase in the yield of both the point visible mutations and recessive sex-linked lethals as compared to that obtained in the dark
