Development of multifilamentary in-situ processed Nb3Sn superconducting wires

  • 1. Fujikura Ltd., Tokyo (Japan)
  • 2. Super-GM, Osaka (Japan)

Description

Nb3Sn superconducting wires produced by the in-situ process have been developed for applications as magnets for superconducting generators. Two types of wires were designed to satisfy the required properties: high current carrying capacity, low AC loss, high stability and good mechanical rigidity as the conductor for a superconducting generator. An externally stabilized conductor has been developed for achieving high stability and rigidity. In addition, an internally stabilized conductor has been developed for improvement of JC and mechanical properties. For the both types of superconductors, the developed wires had separated filamentary in-situ alloyed cores which were similar to the multifilamentary structure in order to enhance critical current density and reduce AC loss
