A neutron diffraction study of lanthanum magnesium nitrate La2Mg3(NO3)12.24H2O

  • 1. Oxford Univ. (UK). Physical Chemistry Lab.

Description

La2Mg3(NO3)12.24H2O, trigonal, R3- (C2sub(3i)), a = 13.172 (3) A, α = 49.290, 230C, FW 1527.18, Z = 1, V = 1207 A3, Dsub(c) = 2.101 g cm-3 [hexagonal, a = 10.989 (2), c = 34.63 (1) A, Z = 3, V = 3621 (2) A3]. The non-hydrogen atom positions were similar to those found in the corresponding cerium double salt whereas some differences were found with the H positions. A hydrogen-bonding scheme is proposed in which seven H atoms form single bonds and one forms a weak bifurcated bond. (Auth.)
