Thermal conductivity of slowly cooled H/sub 2/O and D/sub 2/O ice

Description
The thermal conductivities of H/sub 2/O and D/sub 2/O ice, formed at different cooling rates during solidification process, have been measured between 2 K and 80 K. It is found that the thermal conductivities are almost identical at a particular cooling rate depend upon the cooling rate. The result can be explained by the presence in the crystal dislocations or of tunnelling states arising due to the displacement of oxygen atoms from their crystalline positions. (author)
