Effect of a transverse magnetic field on the expansion of laser plasma

  • 1. Moskovskij Inzhenerno-Fizicheskij Inst. (USSR)

Description

Effect of a transverse magnetic field on the expansion of laser plasma was studied. An experimental facility includes laser based on neodimium glass, vacuum chamber with W and Mo targets, electromagnet and time-of-flight mass spectrometer. Experiments have shown that a transverse magnetic field permits to decelerate the laser plasma expansion, at that the most effective deceleration is observed for high-energy part of plasma bunch containing multiply charged ions
