Angular correlations in the 14N(3He,n)16F/sup */(p)15O reaction
Description
The author have remeasured the n-p angular correlation in the 14N(3He,n)16F/sup */(p)15O reaction for the ground, first and second excited states in 16F. Using the Ohio State University Van de Graaff accelerator and supersonic, recirculating gas jet target system, measurements were made at bombarding energies of 5.00, 5.45 and 6.25 MeV. The definitively non-isotropic 16F ground state angular correlation seen in a previous study was not reproduced in the present study. The observed isotropic n-p angular correlation results for the ground and first excited states of 16F are consistent with the predicted shape based upon the expected nuclear structure and the spin assignments supported by the model-dependent reaction studies results. Proton partial widths for the ground, first, second and third excited states of 16F were deduced and found to be in good agreement with the most recent values found in the literature
