Experimental study of electric-multipole excitations in 16O
Description
The existence of the generalized monopole vibrations has been demonstrated convincingly, at least up to L=2, in many nuclei. This paper demonstrates how several different techniques combine to bring out the characteristics of these collective modes. The discussion is restricted to electric multipoles and 16O is chosen as an example because in this mass range single-particle aspects are not yet overwhelmed by the collectivity and there is still room for disagreement between theory and reality.
