On possibility of a new approach to cascade theory

Description

It is shown that the traditional approach to cascade theory problems gives the biased description of cascade shower shape and over-estimated values of fluctuations. A new approach free of these defects is suggested. The average cascade curves in iron and lead in 0.03-10 TeV energy range are calculated. It is found that the shape fluctuations of high-energy electromagnetic cascade showers are small in a wide neighbourhood of the center of gravity of a shower. The influence of the Landau-Pomeranchuk-Migdal effect leads mainly to the increase of cascade shift fluctuations and does not practically change the cascade shape up to 1014 eV. The results of the experimental study of the shape and fluctuations of electromagnetic cascades prove the validity of the new approach
