Kinetics of redox reactions of U, Np, and Pu in TBP solutions. II. Oxidation of Np(V) by HNO2 in HClO4 solution

Description

The rate of Np(V) oxidation by HNO2 in HClO4 solutions of TBP in benzene is described by equation -d[Np(V)]/dt = k0[Np(V)][HNO2][HClO4]/[H2O]2[TBP]0.9, where k0 = 184 ± 11 liter0.9/mole0.9·min at 40 degrees C. The activation energy E of the reaction is 86.8 ± 3.3 kJ/mole. The rate-limiting step involves interaction of NpO2ClO4 not bonded to TBP with nitrosyl perchlorate NOClO4
