Making attributes work for you

Description

Take the colors off and lets see the depth, have you tracked on the minimum or maximum amplitude? Is your seismic data zero phased? Is your result normalized? Wait a moment, is this on or away from the interpreted horizon? What is the window length is it centered on the horizon or with offset? Your labels are not consistent - is this 50ms above or below? Making sense out of attributes requires a basic knowledge of processing, a clear understanding of wiggles and a good appreciation of the geological setting of the area being worked. Depending on the stage you are in the oil life cycle-calibration with known well parameters and or analog also needs to be considered. Hundreds of attributes exists today and their generation is made simple with advancement in technology. The ease of generation and the availability of several possibilities Have created a bigger problem, a very costly one referred to here as ABUSE OF ATTRIBUTES. Stopping the abuse remains the fundamental aim of this paper through its definition of attributes in discussions on the relationship between seismic attributes and logs, to the more recent possibilities in Seismic Classification. It is our hope that you and your company can make attributes work for you
