Description
The widths of distributions obtained in central 16O + Au interactions at 200 A GeV are examined. It is shown that the width of the rapidity region is important when fluctuations in the distributions of transverse energy and charged particle multiplicity are studied. We investigate the origin of the fluctuations, and conclude that they originate predominantly from the underlying distribution of emitting sources. (orig.)
