Description
The development of the safeguard technology for the Tokai Reprocessing Plant of PNC, i.e. TASTEX Project (Tokai Advanced Safeguard Technology Exercise), has been carried out by four parties, Japan, U.S.A., France and the International Atomic Energy Agency. The work was brought to completion with the results summarized in the fifth steering committee meeting of PNC held in May, 1981; the executive summary report thereon is to be published later by IAEA. In the TASTEX Project, the aim included the improvement of nuclear material measurement and containment/surveillance. The following matters are described: need for the guarantee of peaceful uses of nuclear energy (safeguards) in nuclear power development, the outline of the TASTEX Project, the trend in the development of the safeguards (advanced safeguards), the relationship between the reprocessing plant program and the TASTEX study, the results from the TASTEX Project.
