Description
The TFTR surface pumping system in its full remote handling version has been previously described. Due to funding constraints the installation of such a system was postponed to early 1985. For the interim period (1983-85) a smaller version requiring no remote maintenance has been installed. This system uses eight pumping panels concentrated near the movable limiter inside the torus vacuum vessel. These panels utilize the same Zirconium/Aluminum getter material as the full system. It is the purpose of this paper to describe the system as it presently exists in TFTR, and some of the more important fabrication steps. A comparison of predicted and measured performance parameters is included. A future modification which will incorporate neutralizer plates for improved particle capture is also described
