The BN-type fast reactor concept under new aspects of nuclear power development

Description
The paper presents a brief analysis of the domestic and foreign experience from the development of the only type of fast breeder reactor brought to a commercial level, namely, the liquid-metal cooled fast breeder reactor. It is concluded that the main problems concerning safety, ecology and economics of breeder reactors could be overcome by developing inherently safe fast reactors with metallic fuel which produce secondary fuel in the form of uranium 233. Die Verfasser geben eine Uebersicht der Erfahrungen bei der Entwicklung schneller Brutreaktoren mit Fluessigmetallkuehlung, wie sie in ihrem Land und in anderen Laendern gewonnen wurden. Sie weisen darauf hin, dass sich die wichtigen Probleme der Sicherheit, Umweltvertraeglichkeit und Wirtschaftlichkeit von Brutreaktoren loesen liessen, wenn man inhaerent sichere schnelle Reaktoren mit metallischem Brennstoff entwickelt, die Uran 233 aus Thorium erbrueten.
