A possible identification of H2O thermal emission in the infrared spectra of late-type stars
Description
Presently known observations on μ Cep (M2Ia) and R Cas (M7e) can be interpreted to have appreciable excess emissions in the spectral region between 5 and 8 μm. These excess emissions are as large as 0.5 mag (μ Cep) and 1.0 mag (R Cas) against the expected photospheric spectra of the central stars. It is shown that the 5-8 μm excess can be identified with the thermal emission of gaseous H2O (upsilon2-fundamental) in the circumstellar envelopes of these stars. (orig.) 891 WL
Abstract (German)
Die vor kurzem bekanntgewordenen Beobachtungen von μ Cep (M2Ia) und R Cas (M7e) lassen sich mit einer betraechtlichen zusaetzlichen Emission im Spektralbereich zwischen 5 und 8μm interpretieren. Diese Emissionen erreichen eine Staerke von 0.5 mag (μ Cep) und 1.0 mag (R Cas) relativ zu den erwarteten Photosphaerenspektren der Zentralsterne. Es wird gezeigt, dass die 5-8 μm Emission mit der thermischen Emission von gasfoermigem H2O in den Huellen dieser Sterne in Verbindung gebracht werden kann. (orig.)Additional details
