Detector for high-intensive neutron fluxes on the base of gas scintillators with selective level population
Description
A detector using a gas mixture of 99.9% He + 0.1% N as a scintillator with selective population of levels has been developed for recording high-intensive pulse neutron fluxes. The neutron flux detector is composed of a steel cylindrical chamber with an end window and a photomultiplier. The chamber is filled with the gas mixture under total pressure of 1.0 atm. The γ-neutron pulses have a bell-shaped form, maximum intensity of the neutron component in the pulse not exceeding 4.0x10-9 s-1. The detector sensitivity to the neutron flux is 1.4x1015 Axs-1xcm2 with the photomultiplier amplification coefficient 3.6x106. The typical γ-neutron pulse oscillograms obtained by means of the above detector are shown. The experiments have shown the basic possibility of using gas scintillators with selective level population for developing radiation-stable unsoldered detectors for recording high-intensive neutron fluxes
