Residual stresses in welded cylinder shrouds of dissimilar steels

Description
The distribution of residual stresses has been considered in welded thin-walled cylinder shrouds of 20 and 12Kh18N10T steels, the linear expansion coefficients of which differ by one and a half. Shrouds have been made of pipes, and residual stresses in joints have been determined after welding and heat treatment. The epures of axis and ring residual stresses in the weld and in the adjacent zones have been plotted on the basis of test results. The negative effect of the tempering and the possitive effect of the nickel content in the weld metal on the distribution and quantity of residual stresses in joints of dissimilar metals have been experimentally proved. The heat treatment of dissimilar metal shrouds for the residual relaxation stress is not recommended. In the case the heat treatment is necessary due to some other reasons, dissimilar metals should be welded by the ANZhR-1 electrodes or by some other electrodes on the nickel base
