Hydromagnetic oscillations and instabilities of a plane plasma JET

  • 1. Buenos Aires Univ., Buenos Aires (Argentina). Lab. de Fisica del Plasma

Description

We study the linear oscillations of an infinite uniform plasma in which a plane jet is flowing. A magnetic field is present, the plasma is assumed compressible and non isotropic. The reflection amplitude of hydromagnetic waves incident on the jet is obtained. A dispersion relation for the normal modes is derived, whose solutions correspond to stable oscillations localized in the jet and its surroundings, and localized unstable oscillations whose energy density is negative inside the jet.
