  • 1. Ustav Radioekologie a Vyuzitia Jadrovej Techniky, Kosice (Czechoslovakia)

Description

Laboratory equipment was developed for the preparation of sources for pulse height analysis of alpha emitting radionuclides. It consists of an electrolysis crucible, a stabilized dc supply and a cooling device. Electrolytic deposition of uranyl nitrate on a polished stainless steel plate (25 mm in diameter, 201 mm2 in area) is done in the teflon crucible (inner diameter 16 mm) in a solution of NaHSO4 and Na2SO4 at pH 1.5 to 2.5, a temperature of ca 40 degC and a current of 0.5 to 1.0 A. The anode is a platinum spiral with an active area of 565 mm2 and a distance of 6 mm from the cathode. Under constant experimental conditions (time, composition of solution, etc.) a pulse height spectrum of uranly nitrate was obtained with an energy resolution of 37 keV (FWHM). (B.S.)
