Positron annihilation in the high-T/sub c/ superconductors

  • 1. Section of Applied Physics, Yale University, P.O. Box 2157 Yale Station, New Haven, Connecticut 06520

Description

A model for positron annihilation in the high-T/sub c/ oxides is constructed based on the strongly correlated nature of the electrons in these systems. It is shown that the change in positron lifetime as a function of temperature in superconducting, nearly defect-free YBa2Cu3O7 and La/sub 1.85/Sr/sub 0.15/CuO4 can be understood on the basis of this model assuming that real hole-pair formation takes place in the superfluid state. The observed positron-lifetime changes in YBa2Cu3O/sub 7-//sub x/ as a function of x is also found to be consistent with this model
