Description
Description is given of a radio-electrochemical power converter using the products of the radiolysis of an aqueous solution of an oxido-reduction couple. That converter is characterized in that it comprises a sealed housing (at first filled with a pure gas similar to the gas released by radiolysis) in which are mounted a porous electrode impregnated with the aqueous solution of the oxido-reduction couple and specific of the reaction of said couple, another electrode consisting in a gas electrode and specific of the gas released by radiolysis, a porous diagram providing an ionic junction between said electrodes by gas/liquid surface conductivity and means for connecting said electrodes to an outer circuit. That converter can be used for energizing ultrasonic or radio-wave beacons, detonators, clock-works or implantable organ stimulators
Abstract (French)
On decrit un convertisseur radioelectrochimique d'energie utilisant les produits de radiolyse d'une solution aqueuse d'un couple oxydo-reducteur. Ce convertisseur se caracterise en ce qu'il comprend une enveloppe etanche, prealablement remplie par un gaz pur identique a celui degage par la radiolyse, dans laquelle sont places une electrode poreuse impregnee par la solution aqueuse du couple oxydo-reducteur et specifique de la reaction du couple oxydo-reducteur, une autre electrode constituee par une electrode a gaz, specifique du gaz degage par la radiolyse, un diaphragme poreux assurant la jonction ionique entre les electrodes par conductivite superficielle gaz/liquide, et des moyens de connexion des electrodes a un circuit exterieur.
