Direct observation of surface standing waves in Mo-Si multilayers

Description
Multilayer optics are important for high-efficiency X-ray reflectors. The increase in reflectivity is due to the constructive interference of the partial waves reflected at each interface. When the Bragg condition is satisfied, a standing wave should be formed in the multilayer stack. We have observed the formation of such standing waves in the case of Mo-Si multilayer X-ray reflectors by detecting the photoyield from the sample surface. (orig.)
