Use of mass-spectrometry for solution of some problems of analytical chemistry of radioactive elements

Description

The application of mass-spectrometric methods for analysis of long-lived isotopes of thorium, protactinium, radium, americium and curium is described. Methods of isotope analysis are considered, as well as determination of some isotope content and determination of the proportion of admixtures in samples. A mass spectrometer was used to carry out the analysis, where a source with surface ionization was implied, while a photomultiplier with continuous dynodes or electron-ion converter was used as an ion probe. It is shown that the success in carrying out the isotope analysis depends to a great extent on the chemical preparation of a sample
