Sorption of copper (2) amino complexes on modified samples of hydrated zirconium dioxide
Description
The mechanism has been investigated of the sorption of aminocomplexes Cu(2) on an ionite, the hydrated zirconium dioxide (HZD) in H+-form and on HZD treated with solutions of copper sulfate and chloride, i.e., on HZD in Cu2+-form. The sorption of ethylenediamine on HZD has been studied. On sorption of copper ammoniate by the H+ - and the Cu2+-form of HZD at pH=10, the overall Cu(2) content is independent of the initial form of the specimen, but is affected by the nature of the external sphere anion. The contribution of the ion-dipole interaction of SO42- ions with the matrix of the ionite amounts to approximately 1 mg-eq./g. The sorption of copper ethylenediaminate is affected not only by the pH of the solution and the nature of the external sphere anion, but also by the content of the complex forming agent. The excess of the latter inhibits the sorption of the aminocomplex and causes a desorption of Cu(2) from the Cu2+-form of the sorbent in case of a large content of metal ion. The value of the sorption of the ethylenediamine depends on its concentration and ranges from approximately 1 to approximately 2 mg-eq./g. The sorption of ethylenediamine on HZD in Cu2+-form involves the desorption of copper
