Hyperfine interactions in isolated ions
Description
This chapter is devoted to the use of hyperfine interactions of nuclei in isolated ions as a powerful tool for measuring magnetic moments of short-lived excited nuclear states and for studying the atomic environment creating the fields. Following a general introduction of the concepts in section 1, sections 2, 3 and 4 review the properties of cold ionization in light nuclei, intermediate ionization in light nuclei and hot ionization in medium and heavy nuclei respectively. The experimental work with hyperfine interactions in these 3 ionic regions is surveyed and the results currently available are presented. (Auth./C.F.)
