Sorption of radionuclides of manganese and cobalt from a sodium melt
Description
This paper examines the sorption of the radionuclides Mn-54 and Co-60 from a sodium melt on nickel, iron, an iron-11.6% manganese alloy, and Kh18N10T steel in the 200-450 degrees C temperature range. It has been shown that the sorption is of the same type on all the materials tested: it increases with increasing temperature as activated chemisorption takes place. The radionuclides of manganese and cobalt form in the active zone of a reactor as a result of the activation of the elements appearing in the composition of steels according to the reactions Fe-54, Mn-54, Ni-58, Co-58, Ni-60 and CO-60. The data on the dependence of the sorption of Mn-54 by stainless steel is contradictory. Higher levels of Mn-54 activity on the hot portions of the loops were also noted in the BR-10 and BN-350 reactors
