Public acceptance of nuclear power in Canada

I am very pleased to be here today as a representative of the Canadian nuclear industry to talk to you about an issue that I believe is crucial to the future of the nuclear industry worldwide: public acceptance. I wish I could report to you that in Canada, public acceptance has improved dramatically, and that the great majority of Canadians are now totally supportive of nuclear power. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Or, perhaps I should say not yet the case. We do feel, that however, we are making great strides in understanding the public's concerns and, therefore, are moving closer to that ultimate goal. I am sure that most of you are already aware of the Public Information Program begun several years ago by the nuclear industry in Canada. I'll just give you a little of the history of public opinion in Canada and of this program before bringing you up to date on where we are today
