Investigation of Gd2Ga Intermetallic Compound in phase diagram

Description
Electro negativity, ionic radii and hybridization are some important factors that determine existence of stable phase of a crystal. The experiments show that in the same condition there are various behaviors in formation of Gd2X (X=Al, Ga, In) intermetallic compound, while X belongs to IIIA group of periodic table and these characteristics are same among them. In spite of formation of Gd2 (Al,In) intermetallic compound, there is no report about Gd2Ga Intermetallic compound. Since Gd-Al and Gd-Ga phase diagrams have similar properties such as eutectic temperature or number of compounds. In this work the process of preparing of Gd2Ga intermetallic compound was considered in laboratory during four time programming. XRD and Scanning Electron Microscopy spectra reveal that the orthorhombic structure is the stable phase for this compound. Following that system stability is calculated by use of Wien2k program which results are in good agreement with experimental ones.
