The prospects of using boron nitride in nuclear reactors as an absorbant and decelerator of neutrons

Full text: The given work tells us that there are a widespread materials having an ability of amorphism, magnezation, hightemperature stability, wear resistance and corrosion resisting. To special requests which being presented to modern materials by some spheres of science and technics concern an ability of materials to work not only within the conditions of radioactive irradiation nor also capture heating neutrons. Hexagonal boron nitride has the most of these features. Boron nitride is used by the aircraft industry, because of its hightemperature resistance for a long time in extreme conditions. That is why the given material had been suggested as a neutron immerse material during production of containers for radioactive wastes long-lived storage. Using of enriched boron nitride in the first wall of thermonuclear reactor gives an oppotunity of refining nuclear and physical characteristics of reactor installation as a whole. Boron nitride has feeble activation in reactor neutron shell and high radiation resistance. All abovementioned boron nitride features, also its lower atmoic weight are very important for application in plasma devices, such as for using in installations of thermonuclear synthesis.

V dannoy rabote pokazano to kak v sovremennoy texnike vsyo bolee shirokoe primenenie naxodyat materiali, obladayushie amorfiziruyushey sposobnostyu, namagnichivaemostyu, visikotemperaturnoy stoykostyu, iznoso- i korrozionnostoykostyu. K spetsialnim trebovaniyam, predyavlyaemim k sovremennim materialam nekotorimi oblastyami nauki i texniki otnosyatsya i takie, kak sposobnost materialov ne tolko rabotat v usloviyax radioaktivnogo izlucheniya, no i pogloshat teplovie neytroni. Bolshinstvom etix svoystv obladaet geksagonalniy nitrid bora (BN). Osnovnim potrebitelem etogo BN yavlyaetsa aviatsionnaya promishlennost, chto potrebovalo poiska i primeneniya v bolshom obyome nedefitsitnix i menee dorogix neytronopogloshayushix materialov, sposobnix dlitelnoe vremya (mnogie godi) rabotat v ekstremalnix usloviyax. Poetomu danniy material bil predlojen v kachestve neytronopogloshayushego materiala pri proizvodstve konteynerov dlitelnogo xraneniya radioaktivnix otxodov. Ispolozovanie obogashennogo nitrida bora v pervoy stenke termoyadernogo reaktora pozvolyaet znachitelno uluchshit yaderno-fizicheskie xarakteristiki reaktornoy ustanovki v tselom. U BN slabaya aktivatsiya v neytronnom pole reaktora i visokaya radiatsionnaya stoykost. Eti osobennosti nitrida bora, a takje malaya atomnaya massa ego komponentov vajni dlya primeneniya v plazmennix ustroystvax, v tom chisle i v ustanovkax termoyadernogo sinteza. Takje praktikuetsa ispolzovanie nitrida bora dlya sterjney regulirovaniya i avariynoy zashiti, a takje v kachestve zamedlitelya neytronov v reaktorax.Additional details
