Description
It is shown how spatial correlations in the vacuum state wave functional of a scalar quantum field in curved space-time generate classical matter perturbations. The primordial energy density fluctuation spectrum at initial Hubble radius crossing is a scale invariant Zeldovich spectrum. In inflationary universe models there is a causal mechanism which generates the primordial energy density fluctuations required as initial conditions in theories of galaxy formation. The aim of this presentation is to discuss how classical matter fluctuations are initially produced when considering a scalar quantum field theory in curved space-time
