Histopathology of radiation damage in larval hindgut of the hide beetle, Dermestes maculatus Degeer (Coleoptera: Dermestidae)

Description

Histopathology of radiation damage in larval hindgut of the hide beetle, Dermestes maculatus has been studied during the present investigation. Gamma irradiation doses of 100 to 200 Gy had a pronounced effect on the hindgut of larval hide beetle. The epithelial cells of the hindgut were found to be radiosensitive leading to tissue damage. The damage was correlated with both dose and time elasped after exposure. The maximum injury of epithelial cells were traced at 200 Gy after 7 days of treatment
