Description
This paper reports on simplistic experimental models of the Al + B2O3 and Al + TiO2 reactions that are being developed. The interactions between aluminum and boron oxide in the two- component system began with the melting of B2O3. The reaction between aluminum and titanium dioxide occurred at a higher temperature than the Al-B2O3 reaction in their respective two-component reactions. The aluminum metal oxidized and reacted with titanium oxide forming titanium, titanium-aluminum alloys and Al2O3 through a series of intermediate steps depending on the relative amounts of aluminum and oxygen present
