System for measurement of spatial characteristics of the beam extracted from the JINR synchrophasotron

  • 1. Joint Inst. for Nuclear Research, Dubna (USSR)

Description

A system for measuring the space characteristics of a beam at six points of the trajectory of slow extraction from a proton synchrotron is described. The beam density distribution is measured with the aid of miltiwire ionization chambers. The electrometric amplifiers are connected to the wire chambers by cables not exceeding 5 m in length and placed at controlled points along the extraction trajectory. The inquiry of the wires is carried out by electron commutators. The detecting equipment is in the accelerator control hall at a distance of 500 m. The signals from the accelerators and the detecting equipment are transmitted by a single line with the use of an auxiliary cable. Ten to fifteen measurements are made during extraction. In the main regime the measuring devices operate on-line with a computer, the information being transmitted to a display. A possibility for checking the measuring results with the aid of a memory oscillograph, supplemented by vertical scanning, is provided
