Use of X-ray Fluorescence mini-spectrometer as an alternative for dialysate clinical practice
- 1. Instituto de Pesquisas Energéticas e Nucleares (IPEN/CNEN-SP), São Paulo, SP (Brazil)
Description
The aim of the study was to evaluate the performance of the Energy Dispersion X-ray Fluorescence (EDXRF) technique for ion analysis of clinical relevance (Ca, Cl, K, Fe) in whole blood of patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) undergoing dialysis treatment. It was possible to elaborate a discussion about the advantages and limitations of the use of this procedure for the accomplishment of these biochemical exams in Hemolysis Centers. During the investigation, the concentrations obtained for Ca, Cl, K and Fe led to results that corroborate the clinical trials obtained by conventional analyzes. However, a larger number of samples aiming to increase the number of ions that can be analyzed, can add improvements and encourage their use in routine analysis in laboratory units
