Description

The structure of fermion mass matrices in higher dimensional theories is investigated considering Yukawa couplings. It is argued that generically no small Yukawa couplings appear in high dimensional theories unless they are protected by symmetries or topological reasons. It is concluded that the structure of fermion mass matrices becomes related to a fine structure of scales at the unification scale
