Simplified power systems for BWR turbine islands

Description
A BWR turbine island power systems design that was used in the EPRI sponsored on-going ALWR program is first described. The design is based on a tandem compound 6-flow (TC-6F) turbine and uses a combination of 3 low pressure and 2 high pressure heat strings. It relies on proven technology and, yet, is simpler than current generation designs. Alternate design concepts that group the fluid power systems into two independent parallel strings are next described for both TC-4F and TC-6F turbines. These concepts incorporate only modest innovations but require substantially less equipment, building volume and related commodities such as piping. Evaluation of these innovations is recommended to ensure that viable, cost competitive LWR designs will be available when needed
